WHAT IS A CDS?
A Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is an incentive run by state governments to encourage people to recycle used beverage containers.
A deposit of 10c is added to the cost of the beverage which is refunded to the consumer when the drink container is returned to an authorised return point to be recycled. There is currently a CDS in NSW, QLD, SA, NT and ACT. WA are introducing their CDS on 1st October 2020, TAS in 2022 and VIC in September 2023.
